Modern encryption ransomware and operating system blockers are among those dangers that cannot always be thwarted by a signature-based anti-virus. The number of requests submitted to Doctor Web’s technical support service for help just with Trojans in the Trojan.Encoder malware family recently reached 60% of the total number of requests made, which indicates that this is a real epidemic. And the vast majority of requests are from users of other anti-viruses. The new product Dr.Web Katana eliminates these particular threats.
Another strong point of the new product Dr.Web Katana is that it offers protection against malware that exploits vulnerabilities in software that is installed on a computer. These programs, exploits, are currently in high demand on the market of cybercriminal "services". Despite the fact that developers try to release patches quickly for known vulnerabilities, criminals are often the first to know about them. Today, we can assert with confidence that there exist no completely invulnerable programs! Thanks to Dr.Web Katana, vulnerabilities (including zero-day ones) no longer pose a threat to users, but this, of course, does not negate the need to promptly update all installed software.
Thanks to algorithms developed by Doctor Web, the new product prevents malware from injecting its code into the processes of other applications, and detects and stops the execution of malicious, suspicious, or unreliable scripts and processes. Thanks to Dr.Web ShellGuard, when analysing a potentially malicious action, the protection system uses not only predefined rules stored locally on the computer, but also data from the Dr.Web Cloud service.
Dr.Web Katana does not use virus databases (and, therefore, does not have a virus database that requires updating). The product is virtually invisible with regards to system load and resource consumption. Furthermore, it does not require any configuration.
Please note that Dr.Web Katana is not a replacement for a signature-based anti-virus; it operates efficiently in conjunction with other anti-viruses besides Dr.Web.
The technologies used in Dr.Web Katana are included in Dr.Web Security Space and Dr.Web Anti-virus 11.0, so users of these products do not need Dr.Web Katana.
