Decreased malicious activity, an attack on WhatsApp users and other events of July 2022

Doctor Web presents its July virus activity review. According to the statistics we collected, the overall number of threats detected last month decreased compared to a month earlier. Once again, adware was among the most widespread threats. In email traffic, malicious scripts and exploits were detected most often.

The number of user requests to decrypt files affected by encoders increased noticeably compared to June. At the same time, Internet fraudsters were active again, spreading phishing emails containing links to fake websites.

Also in July, Doctor Web’s anti-virus laboratory uncovered an attack on WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business users. In this attack, trojans that infect the firmware of Android smartphones were involved. Read more on these and other events in our July virus review.
