Doctor Web expands its server product line

December 22, 2010

The Russian anti-virus vendor Doctor Web unveils its new software product Dr.Web for Novell Storage Services included into the Dr.Web Server Security Suite. The new product disarms viruses found in the Novell Storage Services (NSS) file system accessed by means of Novell Open Enterprise Server run under SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (32 and 64 bit versions).

Similarly to other Dr.Web-branded software products for file servers, the anti-virus for Novell Storage Services performs a multi-thread scan and cures, quarantines or removes all types of malicious objects. The program provides centralized statistics on its operation; an administrator is notified of virus events in a timely manner.

Despite the fact that few viruses target Linux-like systems, malicious programs such as macro-viruses that exploit features of Microsoft Word, Excel and other Windows applications can still spread over Linux file servers. Dr.Web for Novell Storage Services prevents such programs from spreading over computers; it should also be noted that with the asynchronous scan technology virus scan becomes completely non-intrusive since access to processed files is not blocked.

The product is available under the Anti-virus license as a component of the Dr.Web Server Security Suite. The product is licensed per number of protected servers.
