DDoS attack on Doctor Web sites deflected

January 27, 2017

Russian anti-virus company Doctor Web is pleased to inform all users that its websites are once again up and running following a two-day DDoS attack.

On January 25, it became quite obvious that a problem that initially appeared to be an issue on the provider's servers was in fact caused by a DDoS attack targeting www.drweb.ru and www.dataprotection.com.ua. The sites' web server received millions of connection requests from fake addresses (SYN-flood). The requests arrived at the rate of 200,000 to 500,000 packets per second.

As a result of the attack, a number of the company's online services became temporarily unavailable. On January 27, Doctor Web engineers managed to resolve the issue. Currently, all Doctor Web sites and services are operating properly.
