Attacks over ICQ

Virus makers have been making a wide use of ICQ in their malicious activities. Sometimes they don't need web-sites featuring high-quality design. In many cases messages give them all they need.

On January 18 a wave of ICQ spam has been registered with messages offering users to install ICQ anti-spam. An offer message is sent to users upon an authorization attempt from a UIN of a criminal. To receive more detailed information a user needs to send a message with any text to the contact. After that a would-be-victim is offered to send a paid SMS which will supposedly install the anti-spam.

Other messages prompt users to download a photo which in fact is nothing more than a piece of malware for mobile devices detected by Dr.Web as Java.SMSSend.132.
