Doctor Web has updated the Dr.Web SelfPROtect module (8.01.00.01173), scanner (8.2.0.201307100), Dr.Web Scanning Engine (8.1.0.201307100), Dr.Web Anti-rootkit API (8.4. 0.201307180), firewall (8.0.1.07011) and Dr.Web Net Filtering Service (8.0.7.07121) in its series 8 products: Dr.Web Security Space, Dr.Web for Windows and Dr.Web for Windows file servers. The main innovation is support of Windows 8.1 (also known as Windows Blue), which is due for release shortly. Other improvements delivered with the update are listed below.

A number of changes have been introduced for the Dr.Web scanner. To optimise active threat neutralisation, the ‘Autorun objects’ option has been removed from the UI. The option to check boot sectors and scan for rootkits is now available for users with different access permissions. Also fixed was an issue involving the OK button remaining inactive when users chose to scan a local drive.

The updated Dr.Web Anti-rootkit API provides improved detection of malicious activities.

The update also corrects an error in the Dr.Web Net Filtering Service when Windows Update would be blocked if SSL traffic scanning was enabled; this issue involved computers running Windows XP. An error that occurred while Windows server certificates were being validated has also been fixed.

The update will be performed automatically; however, a system reboot will be required.
