New Dr.Web solution for protection of file servers under Unix

May 25, 2009

The Russian anti-virus vendor Doctor Web released a new version of its solution for protection of samba servers from various malicious programs. The product is compatible with any Linux distribution with the kernel 2.4 or higher.

The version 5.0 of the anti-virus for file servers incorporates several innovations. It is the updated anti-virus engine 5.0 that allows the solution to neutralize a wide range of viral threats while the improved heuristic analyzer and Origins Tracing technology will detect malicious programs unknown to anti-virus vendors. Unique features of the anti-virus engine provide a quick scan of archives and detection of viruses disguised by means of unknown packers.

Another important addition included in Dr.Web 5.0 for Unix file servers is the web-interface that makes the software administration much simpler. The solution from Doctor Web is very user-friendly and has a simple installation procedure and therefore reduces the workload of a system administrator.

As with earlier versions the new Dr.Web for Unix file servers combines high efficiency and reliability with low system requirements and high stability. The product can scan large amounts of data simultaneously and run smoothly on server machines with low-end hardware.

Other changes and improvements of Dr.Web 5.0 for Unix file servers include:

  • non-local scan;
  • automatic deletion, renaming and placing files to the quarantine if an anti-virus daemon write error occurs;
  • non-local scanning and curing performed if a file can’t be accessed for reading and writing by the anti-virus daemon;
  • Support of Samba 3.2.and 3.3.
