Dr.Web 7.0 for Windows Servers released

June 27, 2012

Russian anti-virus company Doctor Web has released Dr.Web 7.0 for Windows Servers. Incorporated into Dr.Web Enterprise Security Suite, Dr.Web Server Security Suite thoroughly protects systems running server versions of Windows from viruses, rootkits, Trojan horses, spyware, adware, hack tools, and other malicious objects. Dr.Web 7.0 for Windows file servers does not support administration via the Control Center.

The new version of the anti-virus for file servers features numerous innovations. The updated scanner with graphical user interface now supports the multi-thread mode, taking full advantage of multi-core systems, which significantly improves program performance. Now start-up objects, removable media, network and logical drives, e-mails, and files and directories, including archives, are checked for viruses much more quickly. In addition, version 7.0 detects and neutralizes bootkits.

A new module, the Dr.Web Anti-rootkit Service, is a universal subsystem for detecting and neutralizing active infections that use rootkit technologies. The Anti-Virus Network is another new component that provides efficient remote administration of Dr.Web 7.0 anti-virus software installed on Windows computers on the LAN. Now, if an administrator has the needed password, they can control the operation of the anti-virus software on any computer connected to the local network from another computer supporting the new feature. They can also create a master password that allows them to control all anti-virus settings and components.

The updated Dr.Web anti-virus for Windows file servers includes many improvements and innovations that optimize the operation of the program as well as enhance its stability and performance. For example, version 7.0 can automatically elevate its privileges during the scanning process, if the scanner is running under a non-privileged account. The product also features the Dr.Web Control Service, which is responsible for controlling all anti-virus components and their interaction, as well as for retrieving statistics and scheduling updates. The version 7.0 can automatically restore its components from the local repository in the event of their damage or removal, the License manager underwent significant changes and the automatic update module no longer relies on the Windows Task Scheduler. Azerbaijani, Italian, Japanese, and Portuguese language support has been implemented. The interface language now changes as soon as settings are readjusted.

When upgrading from version 6.0 to Dr.Web 7.0 for Windows Servers, some Dr.Web SpIDer Agent and Dr.Web SpIDer Guard settings can be saved and used with the new version. Users can download the new version of the software from Doctor Web's site.
