Dr.Web Virus-Finding Engine 7.0 updated

March 21, 2012

Doctor Web—the Russian anti-virus vendor— has updated Dr.Web Virus-Finding Engine incorporated into Dr.Web Anti-virus and Dr.Web Security Space 6.0 and 7.0, Dr.Web Desktop Security Suite, Dr.Web Server Security Suite (except for Dr.Web for Novell Netware), Dr.Web Mail Security Suite, Dr.Web Gateway Security Suite without the Control Center, Dr.Web AV-Desk, Dr.Web CureIt! and Dr.Web CureNet! as well as Dr.Web LiveCD/LiveUSB.

The update expands the list of supported packers and improves routines for processing previously known ones. The structural entropy file analysis technology used in the engine 7.0 has been improved significantly. This unique technology is an efficient alternative to signature-based detection. It significantly improves Dr.Web capability to detect unknown threats.

In addition, heuristic analyzer performance has increased while the number of false positives is expected to decline. In particular, PDF and JavaScript heuristic analysis routines have been improved.

Archive scan routines have also been enhanced. In addition, large messages received by Mozilla Thunderbird are now scanned faster. Known errors have been fixed.

The update will be downloaded and installed automatically.
