An anti-bootkit module, new behaviour analysis routines and upgrades galore in updated Dr.Web 12.0 for Windows and Dr.Web 12.0 for Windows Server

June 5, 2023

Russian anti-virus company Doctor Web is pleased to present its updated Dr.Web 12.0 for Windows and Dr.Web 12.0 for Windows Server, which introduce new anti-virus security features and upgraded old ones. The applications boast improved stability and more robust system protection.

What's new

An anti-bootkit module has been introduced to detect and eliminate bootkits (malicious programs that modify disk boot sectors), regardless of how well they have been disguised by attackers. The module has already proved its effectiveness as part of Dr.Web CureIt!

New behaviour analysis capabilities provide protection against RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) attacks. This second innovation is particularly relevant for business users. It enables Dr.Web to prevent unauthorised access to the anti-virus and the operating system.

Fixes and upgrades

The update also improves Dr.Web’s stability and performance, keeping its CPU and memory usage as low as possible. To accomplish this, it uses redesigned routines for scanning files, processes and the system memory. This optimisation is particularly noticeable when applications requiring large amounts of memory—such as DBMS software—are running in the system.

Technical support reports are now generated faster, while background rootkit scanning routines have also been optimised. The anti-virus’s operation has also become more stable in the situations when a file it needs to scan is inaccessible.

Its capabilities for detecting encryption ransomware and penetration attacks have increased. The malicious behaviour analyser, powered by machine learning, has also been upgraded. Adjustments have also been made to Dr.Web file operations monitoring routines to avoid compatibility issues with third-party applications.

The update will be downloaded and installed automatically; however, a system reboot will be required.

If you're not using Dr.Web yet, try our anti-virus for Windows—you’ll get to enjoy an entire month of free use.
