Firewall and self-protection upgrades and other improvements in Dr.Web Security Space 12.8.3 for Android

October 25, 2022

Russian anti-virus company Doctor Web has updated its Dr.Web Security Space for Android to version 12.8.3. The update delivers upgrades for the application's firewall and improves its stability and performance.

The firewall's screens, where users can set up a period when mobile traffic will be limited to a specified amount, have been redesigned. When ‘Week’ or ‘Month’ is selected, the day or specific date when the restrictions will be updated within that period need to be indicated.

Furthermore, the firewall settings include additional options for managing file transfer protocols on the device—Use IPv6 (use Ipv6 alongside Ipv4) and Allow DNS over TCP (redirect DNS queries and hide domain names). These extra parameters have been added in response to users’ requests for more flexibility in controlling their mobile device’s network activity.

The firewall provides protection from unauthorized access and helps maintain the integrity of user data. Using the firewall may require additional IT skills. This component is disabled by default. If you have questions about the firewall's operation and usage, please refer to the product's documentation.

Meanwhile, self-protection routines are now even more effective at preventing the application from being shut down or removed without proper authorization.

Dr.Web Security Space for Android also boasts reduced battery usage. Issues that might cause the application to terminate abnormally have been resolved.

The update also delivers tweaks and improvements for the Parental Control, the Anti-theft and the ULR-filter.

It also addresses a Call and SMS filter issue affecting user lists.

Adjustments have also been made to the application's interface for smart phones, tablets and Android TV devices.

If you downloaded the Dr.Web application from Google Play, the updates will be downloaded and installed automatically. If you’ve disabled automatic updating on your device, go to Google Play, select the Dr.Web Security Space or Dr.Web Security Space Life icon in the application list, and tap "Update”.

To update the app via the Doctor Web site, you need to download a new distribution file and run it on your device. If the “New app version” option has been enabled in the settings, a notification will be displayed whenever the virus databases are updated. You can start the download directly from this dialogue box.
