New format of virus databases will accelerate anti-virus’s start and optimise memory consumption

19 August, 2022

Russian anti-virus company Doctor Web is pleased to report on an important change that has been made to Dr.Web Security Space 12.0, Dr.Web Anti-virus 12.0, and Dr.Web Anti-virus 12.0 for Windows Servers: the company has developed a new format for its virus databases that makes the process of downloading them faster. Doctor Web's developers have been working on this important improvement for years.

To optimise resources, accelerate the download of the anti-virus, and thus enhance protection, our specialists have developed a new format for the virus databases that substantially reduces the consumption of RAM without affecting user security. The new databases load instantly from a disk; they are not copied and unpacked into the RAM and are immediately ready for operation.

To upgrade to the new version of the virus databases, it is essential to enable the update of all the components (if you select "Updating components: Only virus databases", the old database version will continue to be updated).

The new databases will be downloaded automatically on Tuesday, August 23. The total size of the updated databases is 200 MB. Please keep in mind that users of Dr.Web products who only have database updates enabled will not be upgraded to the new version of the databases: it is essential to enable updating for all the components. Note that this update does not affect users of Dr.Web products that support centralised administration and users of any certified Dr.Web versions.
