An increase in malware activity and other events of May 2021

Doctor Web presents its May 2021 virus activity review. The total number of unique detected threats increased compared to April. According to statistics, adware and unwanted programs continue to be popular threats. Malicious software and scripts that use vulnerabilities in legitimate programs such as Microsoft Office were most often distributed in mail traffic. Besides that, cybercriminals distributed packed modifications of trojan written in VB.NET. User requests to decrypt files affected by encoders increased by almost 19.9% compared to April.
